The Difference between Orangeries and Conservatories

The Difference between Orangeries and Conservatories

Orangeries

An orangery is a brick structure with large windows and a flat roof with a glass lantern.

One of the main differences between an orangery and a conservatory is that there is more brickwork in an orangery and more glasswork in a conservatory, although the differences can be very subtle.

Benefits of having an orangery:

-more heat retention from the brick walls
-the roof provides ample light
-great looking both internal and external

Conservatories

Conservatory name comes from the idea of being able to conserve more delicate vegetation . That is because by the seventeenth century, countries in the Northern part of Europe wanted to grow more exotic fruits and plants.

Can be made in a traditional design or a more contemporary style .

A conservatory is a fully glazed structure with a low brick base
Majority of the roof is made of glass
The structure is built against the wall of a house with a closing door or window walls are at least half made of glass
